These are our vet visits. The latest visit comes first.
16 December 2005
Roope had a stomach flu at the night between 13 and 14 December. We had to rush outdoors every one or two hours. Roope vomited and had diarrhea. However, he was pretty lively and happy to go for short walks. He even wagged his tail when we got back home. On Thursday, I called the vet to ask for instructions. The vet told us to come for a visit on Friday if Roope was still sick.
On Friday, we indeed had to go to see the vet. The vet probed Roope's stomach, but nothing seemed to be wrong. Roope's temperature was 39,3°C. Roope got a shot of medication to prevent nausea, and antibiotics. The vet also gave us drugs to take home with us: Oropim Vet and Metopram 10 mg.
Luckily, we were finally able to get a good night's sleep the night between Friday and Saturday. On Saturday, Roope was allowed to eat some rice. Plus, he ate all the edible stuff he could find on the floor!
6 October 2005
Roope's fifth birthday is approaching. Thus, it was time to visit the vet to get vaccinations.
Roope seemed to remember that this was the place where terrible things took place (the castration!). Therefore, he decided to spend the waiting time behind a waiting room chair. Roope didn't really seem to mind the vaccination itself, though... He just wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible! Every car in the parking lot would have done for a means to get home.
24 February 2005
Roope got a blood test. The blood is examined to see whether the epilepsy medicine content of the blood is at the right level. The doctor is also checking other blood counts. We had no problems on our visit; even no fingers were bitten. The blood was easily extracted from Roope’s hind leg while he was enjoying the delicious snacks we had brought with us.
20 October 2003
Roope was vaccinated.
26. September 2003
Roope was castrated, and a blood test was also taken. The sample came out normal, which confirms that Roope's fits are due to epilepsy.
11 July 2003
On Wednesday morning (9 July) Roope had a "seizure." He couldn't move for 10
minutes. Poor boy was shaking and panting. After the seizure released its
hold he returned back to normal and wanted out. The vet first checked him
over - feet, back, neck, prostate gland - and then listened to his heart. He
found one sore spot in his back.
Then Roope was sedated. After 10 minutes he
was asleep - but it was not enough, he had to be given another dose. After
all this the vet could take x-rays. There was nothing particular in his
back, but he was missing one rib! How strange, how come that was missed in
the x-rays last autumn? This is some congenital defect thing. At this stage
Roope was diagnosed with epilepsy. If he has more seizures, he will get
medication.
7 October 2002
We went in again to check the knees and they were fine. Because Roope has
had some gait disturbance with his back legs, we also took hip x-rays. The
healthier hip was a B and the side which has been the source of disturbances
is a C.
Therefore I have decided that Roope will not be used in breeding.
19 September 2002
Roope had his official eye chek, healthy eyes. Roope was weighed: 7.1 kilos.
28 January 2002.
The skin next to one of Roope's front feet nails is red and swollen. It has been
like that for a few days now and we have treated it with Terra-Poly vet cream,
but that has not helped. And so we went to see our regular vet. We got Kefavet
vet 250 mg tablets, one tablet two times a day for 5 to 7 days.
15 January 2002
Roope had his official eye and knee check. Healthy eyes and knees 0.
18 October 2001
Roope had his one-year vaccination. The visit went well, he was just a little
scared on the doctor's table.
27 September 2001
Roope has a microchip.
Roope was really enthusiastic in the waiting room. He barked out loud that he
has to get to the vet immediately and that it would be nice to look at
everything else too since we were already there. Then he was a bit afraid in
front of the vet.
Roope was weighed: 7.2 kilos. He is a big boy! And I have been worried because
he will not always eat his food.
We also suspected that he has some nose ticks. He snuffles, sneezes and rubs his
nose. He got some Strong hold solution. After the microchip was put in place I
lifted him down to the floor. Then he had to mark the door-post. Even the vet
laughed. That was probably Roope's way of saying "This is what I think of
you and your chip!
